Necarne Horse Trials on TV

PANACHE TELEVISION has produced television coverage of Necarne Castle International Horse Trials, including an exciting 'helmet camera' ride around the course. Company director Karen Rodgers worked closely with a specialist firm to develop a miniature camera that could be mounted on the helmet. "We carried out many tests to find the best and safest method of recording the rider's point of view, and spent the week at Necarne trying out the equipment 'in-situ'. We are delighted with the result and, although we are working on a number of refinements, we obtained some pleasing results" In addition to the camera, Panache TV also developed a 'speedometer' graphic to accompany the round, which illustrates the fluctuations in speed of horse and rider as they meet the different obstacles. "We aim always to be creative in the way we present the sport to the wider public", said Karen, "and we hope that everyone watching will find themselves caught up in the action." RTE were so taken with the footage, they are putting the entire 'helmet cam' cross-country round on their website, which will be available to view from Thursday 4th October. TV SCHEDULE RTE 2 O.B. CHILDREN'S CHOICE PUBLICATIONS NATIONAL DRESSAGE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2007 - NECARNE CASTLE, IRVINESTOWN, COUNTY FERMANAGH - FRIDAY 21ST SEPTEMBER TO SUNDAY 23rd SEPTEMBER 2007

Children’s Choice Publications is the new title sponsor for the first ever national dressage championships to be held in Northern Ireland which will take place this month at Necarne Castle, Irivinestown, County Fermanagh [Friday 21st September to Sunday 23rd September 2007]. Children’s Choice Publications is one of the leading suppliers of children’s books to the retail trade in both Ireland and Scotland and are approved suppliers for Hendersons, JJ Hasletts, Musgraves N.I. & Costcutter in Northern Ireland, B.W.G., Barrys, Mangans, A.D.M. Londis in the Republic of Ireland and C.J. Langs in Scotland. Reigning national champion Laragh Hamilton (24) from Lisburn, County Antrim will be defending her title on home ground after a good showing with her chestnut mare Claggan Roxy Music by the Irish Draught stallion Rakish Paddy on her international debut in Hartpury, England in July. International rider Anne Marie Dunphy from Castlecomer, County Kilkenny will be a serious challenger with her Heritage sponsored string of horses. Marlton Autumn Dressage Festival Big Tour winner Sue Smallman will be making the journey up from her Fethard, County Tipperary base in attempt to claim the national title with Oakengrove Ideal. Heike Holstein has just returned to competing on the national circuit and the ten-time national champion is bound to be a serious contender for top honours with World Fire. Yvette Truesdale has recently returned from international duty in Great Britain and will be very difficult to beat in both the Olympic Saddlery Prix St Georges championship and the Children’s Choice Publications Intermediaire I championship with the Jim Burgess owned Has to be Fun. There is a prize fund of over £5,000 with support from new sponsors Quinns of Baltinglass, Team Millicent, Boswell Equestrian, Horetown Tack Shop and Equestrian Clothing along with existing sponsors Balinteggert Stud, Portadown, County Armagh, Olympic Saddlery, Airtricity, Vinesgrove Stud and Racing, Kevin O’Sullivan and Blarney Riding Centre. The 2007 renewal also features the final of the Irish Horse Board/Dressage Ireland Potential Irish Dressage Horse Final on Friday 21st September and the opening rounds and final of the Silver Spurs for pony, junior and young riders, which are also supported by the Irish Horse Board, on Sunday 23rd September. The welcome reception on Friday 21st September and Bar-b-Que on Saturday 22nd September will both be held in the Shackleton Crean Event Management corporate marquee located on the castle lawn. Robert McCormick, Managing Director of Children’s Choice Publications Limited, stated that Children’s Choice Publications were delighted to be supporting the National Dressage Championships on this their first ever visit to Northern Ireland.

Additional Class at Necarne 2007

Additional Class at Necarne Castle International Horse Trials 2007 Good news for those riders with horses that are not qualified [4 weeks before the 1st day of dressage] for the CCI** at Necarne Castle 2007: The Organising Committee has agreed [with permission from the FEI] to add a CIC** to the schedule This class will only run if there are at least 20 entries, by Friday 24th August Qualification as per the FEI rules: Minimum of 1 Qualifying Result required: 1 x CIC* or 1 x CNC** Entry Fee will be £105 and the same stabling fee as for all other classes Dressage test will be the FEI 2 star "A" test Also, if your horse has Qualifying Results from 3 x CCI* [at close of entries] we are informed that this is indeed considered as a qualification for the CCI**. September 2007 saw the Necarne Castle International Horse Trials successfully completed. It was great to see lots of regular faces back to Necarne, but best of all we had lots of newcomers who thoroughly enjoyed their week of competiton. Necarne is renowned throughout the world for its friendliness and so a number of our first time international competitors vowed they would be back again to avail of the world class facilities and hotly contested classes.

The weather was fantastic – apart from Sunday morning, which meant a quick re-scheduling of the Prize Giving to be held indoors in the Shackleton Crean Marquee! But the Fermanagh sunshine was back out on Sunday afternoon to see Matthew Wright take 1 st and 2 nd places in the CCI**.

Our thanks must go to everyone involved in this fantastic event and especially to all our sponsors, volunteers and officials and especially to Fermanagh District Council and the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise. Plans are already underway for 2008, our dates are 18 th – 21 st September and it promises to be another great event for Co Fermanagh.
